Plaid can be associated with nerdiness. So you have to be careful how you incorporate this pattern into your style. When figuring out what to wear with plaid pants mens, the plaid will be extremely busy, and likely the focal point of the entire outfit.

Pairing plaid pants with solid-colored tops and tees is a great way to avoid too much noise. You will notice this is often the case for AI-generated images of men’s fashion when related to plaid pants. Your shoes should have the same effect in that they are one solid color, whether matching your belt or one of the colors of the plaid pattern itself.

My favorite version of plaid pants is the blue and white pattern. They are less busy and have more versatility when combined with multiple looks.

After reviewing most of the images generated, I have learned the best thing to pair with plaid pants for men is brown dress shoes, a matching brown belt, and a solid-colored white dress shirt.

1. Brown Belt & Brown Shoes

Brown shoes and a brown belt almost always go well with plaid pants. In this case, you can see the super small tight checks on the plaid pattern, and it works well. The plaid pants also look like they are textured for a more cloth or wool style. This adds some stylish flavor as well.

2. Brown Belt & Brown Shoes, Again

Again, this look showcases how brown shoes and a matching brown belt can work extremely well with plaid pants of different checkered size patterns. You can pair this with solid white dress shirts and you will be good to go.

3. Solid-Color Shirt Or Sweater

The middle picture will show you solid brown dress shoes that are paired with red and blue plaid pants and one solid-colored beige dress sweater. I prefer the plaid pants to be cropped personally.

The picture on the right is more my style, the blue and white plaid pants are cuffed and paired with a solid black t-shirt, and a pair of blue loafer dress shoes. I think this looks dope. The plaid pants are just one color so it takes away the business of traditional multi-colored plaid pants. Also, they are a bit baggy which adds to the casual style here in this case.

4. Tucked-in Red Tee

You can also have a more casual look by rocking a simple red pocket t shirt with a single colored black plaid pant. You can pair these with a black belt and black boots. It looks better if you tuck in the tee for sure.

5. Suspenders & Bow Tie

A great way to style plaid pants is by pairing them with a white dress shirt, black suspenders, and a black bow tie. This look is perfect for a casual business casual or semi-formal event.

What allows you to get away with this look and not look too nerdy is the accessories, the cropped pant showing ankle, and the slim fit. It helps to have tattoos, a beard, or a bulkier body type to be completely honest here.

6. Blue Plaid Pants

The single-colored blue plaid pant is the strongest in my opinion, and when you pair it with a brown belt and matching brown shoes, you can get a decent look going. I wouldn’t say that plaid is my favorite pattern for pants in general but if I was going to go with the look, I would rock this style.

7. White Chunky Sneakers

Plaid pants have become a popular style for men in recent years, and can be worn for both casual and formal occasions. When wearing plaid pants casually, it is important to choose the right shoes and shirt to complete the outfit. Chunky white sneakers are a great choice for pairing with plaid pants, as they provide a casual and comfortable look.

8. Black Blazer & Black Shoes

If you have dark checks in your plaid pants, you can rock a white dress shirt, a black blazer and black dress shoes or black loafers as a combination. This is actually not a bad look IMO. You can also pair with black shades to add a little flair as well.

9. Hoodie & Baggy Plaid

This is more of a super casual option as these plaid wide leg pants are a bit baggy and pair with a hoody and a hat. I though ti was interesting to share regardless. But I wouldn’t be rocking this one to be honest. Try not to use pajama pants, this will not look dope lol.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What tops to wear with plaid pants men?

A shirt, sweater, or dress shirt in a solid color is always a good choice.

What goes well with plaid pants?

Brown shoes, a brown belt, and a white dress shirt go well with plaid pants because they don’t add much noise to the outfit. Plaid pants can be an extremely loud pattern with a lot of business, so pairing plaid with understated pieces makes the outfit more cohesive.

How do men wear patterned pants?

There are a few different ways that you can wear them. You can either dress them up or down, depending on the occasion. If you’re going for a more casual look, you can pair them with a t-shirt and sneakers. For a more dressed-up look, you can wear them with a single-colored dress shirt and loafers. No matter what route you go, make sure that your plaid pants are the star of the show by keeping the rest of your outfit relatively simple.
